Penang Hill has long been one of the top destinations which will surely be on the list of those who are visiting Penang. This natural wonder has a long and rich history which can be traced back to more than 200 years ago when it was first developed as a hill station.

This year, as we celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Penang Hill Funicular Railway, learn about the numerous wonders that have occurred in and around Penang Hill from our speakers at the talk session – “Penang Hill & Its Vicinity: 100 Years of Wonders”.

Speakers:
1. Enzo Sim – the author of “The Great Hill: A Short History of Penang Hill”
2. Clement Liang – a history researcher active in promoting heritage conservation and tourism
3. Dr. Tan Chee Seng – a Senior Lecturer at the History Section, School of Humanities, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM)

Moderator: Dr. Beh May Ting – Head of the History & Regional Studies Programme, Penang Institute


They will share about the historical evolution of Penang Hill, the transformation of Air Itam/Air Putih, and the “education wonders” across centuries since the early 19th century to discover the pioneers and changers of education around Penang Hill.
